Why I Will Want A Son

Why I Will Want A Son (a poem) (c) 3/2003

She sees the her in me
Always has
He said, she feared the her in me
(I think) Always will

When I was younger
The reason she pushed so hard
Trying, fruitlessly
(I think) needlessly

to keep me from doing what she did
experiencing what she did

and yet, I see the her in me
fear and embrace the her in me
parallels are sure,
(I think) inevitable

but the lines don’t have to be straight
there is the will, the skill to squiggle
